DeMarcus Cousins: NBA Big men who can learn a thing or two from Hakeem Olajuwon – Feature Part 1
Hakeem Olajuwon is no doubt one of the best big men in NBA history. The 49 year old Hall of Famer is known for his post moves which saw him be a leader for the Houston Rocket and bringing home back to back NBA Championships.
The legendary big man has had his fair share of battles down in the post with the likes of Patrick Ewing and David Robinson and coming out victor in most of those show downs earned him the nick name “The Dream” for his exploits
inside the paint.
In the past few seasons Olajuwon has been offering post up lessons to the stars of today. And the like of LeBron James, Kobe Bryant and Dwight Howard have experienced success following coaching lessons from the Hall of famer. The
most recent NBA All-star to ask for the services of Olajuwon has been Amare’ Stoudemire of the New York Knicks as the young power forward hopes to become an dominating post player.
There are a lot of big men in the NBA who have the talent to be true dominating presences in the paint but lack the precision and skill required to playing with their back to the basket. But with a little help from Olajuwon could
show significant signs of improvement in their post play and given the amount of time can work their way to be regarded as feared big men in the NBA. So here is a list of players who can benefit from coaching tips from the legendary centre.
DeMarcus Cousins
One of the most young and talented big men in the NBA is DeMarcus Cousins but in his in ability to remain calm has gotten him into trouble on more than a few occasions. So far in his career, he may have not become the most dominating
big men in the NBA but with a little bit of work could be on his way and coaching from Olajuwon can be of great help.
The most important thing that Cousins could need help on is how to deal with pressure situations and who better to learn the art of staying calm then the best centre to ever play in the NBA. It was this ability to stay composed
which not only brought individual success to Olajuwon but helped him win back to back championships with the Houston Rockets.
So if Cousins wants to keep one big men as an idol, Olajuwon is the perfect fit. Coming from his second season in the NBA, Cousins averaged 18.1 points and 11 rebounds per game and with a little help from Olajuwon can even improve
on that.
Another thing Olajuwon can help him improve is his positioning on the court. He may be a great defensive rebounder but on offensive, Cousins is known for being too complacent regarding movement without the ball. So Olajuwon can
be of great help regarding the 22 year olds’ movement who still has a lot to go before being able to cement himself as a prime big man in the NBA.
