DeSean Jackson can return to the Eagles if right terms develop, says Owner Jeffrey Lurie – NFL News
Philadelphia Eagles Owner Jeffrey Lurie has said that wide receiver DeSean Jackson could return to the side next year ‘if right terms develop’.
Talking to reporters on Tuesday, Lurie commended Jackson and said that he would love to have the wide receiver back at Philadelphia. Lurie also said that Jackson’s potential is not fully utilised and the player is capable of displaying a better game-play
as compared to this year's performance.
"I think his attitude and his whole approach in the final month of the season was terrific, high energy. I think he started to realise and get it. So, you know, I would welcome him back. I think if the right terms develop, he would be welcomed back. We have
the leverage of, obviously, we can do what we choose to do and control his situation but, terrific player and I really don't agree with those who think he's tapped his potential fully. I think he hasn't and he has a chance to get even better," Lurie said.
Earlier, Jackson had expressed a desire to stay with the franchise after the end of his four-year rookie contract. Jackson will be a free agent this offseason if the Eagles do not sign a new contract with him.
Jackson has been selected for the prestigious Pro Bowl squad three times in his career. This season, however, his overall performance was not up to the mark.
In his first professional season, Jackson rushed for 912 yards with an average of 14.7 yards per catch. The next year, Jackson impressed by maintaining an average of 18.6 yards per carry while rushing for a total of 1,156 yards.
Last year, he had 1,056 yards to his credit, but he successfully held a laudable average of 22.5 yards per catch in 14 games.
This season, Jackson played 15 games and managed 961 yards with an average of 16.6 yards per catch. He was even sidelined for one game by Coach Andy Reid for missing a team meeting.
After this season’s performance, he apologised publicly for not playing well while admitting that expiring contract had been a cause of distraction for him throughout the year.
The Eagles could not qualify for the playoffs this year and ended up at second spot in the National Football Conference East division ranking table after winning and losing eight games respectively.
After a sloppy start, they came back strong to win last four games, but the winning streak came too little too late.
