DeSean Jackson gets an ear full from Andy Reid
DeSean Jackson was not pleased after a tongue lashing from head coach Andy Reid following a 31-26 loss to the Chicago Bears on Sunday. The wide receiver sat at his locker with his head in his hands for 20 minutes after Reid scolded him in front of the entire
team.
Running back LeSean McCoy and tight end Brent Celek consoled Jackson and quarterback Michael Vick offered him some advice.
Jackson is in his third season in the NFL, and he has been a starter since he broke into the league in 2008. This season he has 678 yards on 35 receptions and he’s scored five receiving touchdowns. He also has 98 rushing yards on 12 carries with one rushing
touchdown.
On Sunday against the Bears he had two catches for 26 yards.
Last season, Jackson had 1156 yards on 62 catches with nine touchdowns. While he could still improve his numbers this season, they are on pace to fall short of last year’s.
“We'll get him going again,” said Vick. “He just can't get frustrated. He has to understand that there are professionals on the other side of the ball, too. And we have some pretty good coaches, some d**n good coaches, and we're going to make it work.”
During Sunday’s game, the Bears played a two-deep zone defence, effectively eliminating the deep ball threat, which is often thrown to Jackson. The speculation is that Jackson was angered by not getting the ball down field, but throwing into coverage is
something that every quarterback, except maybe Brett Favre, is loathe to do.
Reis was more concerned about the team going 1-5 in the red zone against the Bears.
“We’ve got to make sure we score when we’re given an opportunity,” said Reid. “There are going to be games when you don’t have a turnover, you have to keep battling and fighting. When you’re in the red zone you have to score touchdowns against a good team.”
