DeShawn Stevenson takes a dig at LeBron James – again: NBA Feature
DeShawn Stevenson had LeBron James’ number in the NBA finals last season; there is no doubt about that. The tattooed wing man got inside LeBron’s head and the King was never able to be his own throughout the series which the Dallas
Mavericks won 4-2.
However, that season is over and Stevenson isn’t even at the Mavs anymore. Still, he wanted to take a dig at LeBron and that too after Miami Heat bulldozed the New Jersey Nets [Stevenson’s new team] 108-78 this Tuesday.
He hit James where it hurts the most, bringing the Finals into perspective yet again;
"I think we were just a better team than them," Stevenson said. "And then obviously LeBron didn't play like he should have played [in the Finals]."
What a revelation!!
And coming out of a guy, who has barely shot one fourth of his field goals this season and in as a weak a roster as that of the Nets, hardly sees the light of the day.
There was no doubt that the Mavericks were the best team in the Finals. They had more depth, intensity, poise and not to miss, more hunger in the Finals. Against any other team, Miami would have swept the series, but the never-say-die
attitude of the Mavs was simply too much to overcome.
And yes, LeBron James choked in the Finals. The whole world knows that already, but what we also know is that had it not been for James, Miami wouldn’t have been in the finals in the first place. He was the one who avenged the
Boston Celtics for years of misery and was also the man who hounded Derrick Rose and his Chicago Bulls like a nightmare in the Eastern Conference Finals.
It was also not that James has escaped any blame. He has always been forthright about his failures and this season, there is a definite improvement in his postgame. James has improved on his jump shots and a three point attempt
from him has become a rarity. He is passing more and more and has become a swift part of the Miami system.
Still, it’s true that James is learning it the hard way and a championship ring still eludes him, however he is still the best small forward in the league and the most complete player of his generation. Anybody who doubts that
would be laughed out of the room.
What’s more scary is that LeBron is hungrier and the early signs clearly predict that toppling him and the Heat this time around would be a herculean task.
So, if you want to take a dig at James, Stevenson, feel free, because that would only make the King more dangerous.
