Question:

Dead Bunny?

I found a bunny outside in our pool. I rescued it and put it by a plant. I was watching it nibbble for a while. I (12) love animals and made a shoebox home for it with carrots cheerios and lettuce inside. I took it over and set it right outside the plant and looked at the bunny but it was just sitting there not moving AT ALL with her eyes open. I don't know if she is alive or dead. Please Help.

  1. she's probably just in shock, her eyes would be closed if she were dead. just check on her once in a while, also make sure the plant is edible by rabbits

  2. she's probably in shock - try to keep her warm and giving her space was probably the best thing to do. Shock can kill rabbits so check on her periodically. If you think she needs help, contact a local wildlife rehabilitation place.

  3. Leave her be and come back later to check on her.  If she's healthy and just stressed out, she'll probably have gone.  Wild bunnies are pretty stressed by people around, plus she fell in the pool, which would also have been a pretty traumatic event for her.  It's possible she is experiencing shock.  If you leave her be and don't disturb her, she may recover and go on her way.

Because she is a wild rabbit, catching her and trying to take to the vet is not advisable unless she has an obvious serious injury that would need vet attention or be fatal, it would stress her even more and could trigger a heart attack.

  4. touch   it   and   see   if  it`s   alive.
