Dead Island sells a million units despite issues following its release
One can imagine the amount of money which is involved in the Interactive Entertainment Industry -a fancy way of saying Video Game Industry- as one game reaches a milestone and another shows just how much money a successful franchise can earn in the long
run.
Starting things off with more recent events, as Deep Silver’s holiday gone to zombie h**l multiplatform game, Dead Island, managed to ship 1-million copies across all platforms in just its first week.
While the sales figures are not as impressive as the industry’s current record holder, Call of Duty: Black Ops, which earned a cool $650-million in five days of its release, it is still an impressive figure, seeing how the game on average sells for around
$60 a copy.
What makes the news even better for the publisher is the fact that the 1-million units were sold in the United Sales alone and did not incorporate sales figures from other regions, which are expected to match their North American counterparts.
The game has been topping charts worldwide, something which Bettor.com readers will be well aware of, and that trend is set to continue for a little while longer at the very least.
The Chief Operating Officer, Geoff Mulligan, who probably hates his luck at having the ‘O’ instead of ‘E’ (CEO), stated that the sales were expected to hit the 2-million-unit mark by the end of the week.
“We’re thrilled at the retail reception Dead Island has achieved in the first few days,” Mulligan said in a statement.
He also explained that the company was glad the game was successful in its first week, when it came to sales and that they were working to try and keep up with demand for the game.
“The critical first week of game sales has been an enormous sales success for Deep Silver. We’re working quickly with our distribution partner in North America, Square Enix, to restock shelves as quickly as we can,” he added.
The news becomes even more special when one looks at the impending disaster scenario the publisher had to face following Dead Island’s release. The original PC release was full of bugs and glitches as the online platform responsible for distributing the
software, Steam, released the wrong version of the game for sale.
An apology was issued by the publisher and a patch hit the store a few days later which addressed all the issues. It could have been detrimental, but it seems, at least if one was to look at the sales figures, that the game rode the storm and came out on
top.
Dead Island is currently out on all major platforms and should be no brainer for zombie fans.
