Dead Rising 2: Single Player Campaign review Gameplay – PlayStation 3,Xbox 360, PC – Part 2
During his time in Fortune City, the protagonist, Chuck Greene can level up and unlock new skills, attacks and combo cards (explained later). In order to do so however, the player will need to amass a certain level of PP. When a player reaches a certain level of PP he goes up a level, which adds a certain element of a RPG to the game.
The player can earn PP in various ways throughout the game, with the most common one being to mow through the thousands of zombies in the game. While this may not earn large amounts of PP, racking up a large amount of kills will earn bonuses.
Also, there is a handy kill count on the screen the entire time allowing players to keep track of how many of the undead they have put down.
Another way to earn PP is to save survivors. Chuck will get a call on his walkie-talkie informing him at certain points throughout the game about people he can rescue. They are littered throughout Fortune City and saving them is as simple as finding them, talking to them and leading them back to the Safehouse.
However, along the way the player will encounter certain survivors who will ask for something to be done for them before they choose to follow Chuck back to safety. Some need a lengthy talking to, others may need food or a drink, some of the more annoying ones will ask for money in return. The latter will often have players wanting to bash their skulls in, but then again it does add variety.
Most of the survivors will reward Chuck for leading them to safety, with combo cards or cash, while one even tells Chuck of a secret passage that saves a lot of time when it comes to travelling between the many locations in Fortune City.
However, many survivors are usually held hostage by Psychopaths who pop up just as often as the survivors themselves and range from a chef who does not appreciate Chuck’s criticism of his latest dish to a Security Guard gone mad and even a Siberian Tiger.
These make up mini boss battles in the game and are enjoyable to play, though players can avoid them altogether if they wish to do so. Defeating Psychopaths also earn players a handsome PP bonus and allows Chuck to take any weapons they may have had.
The one major enhancement when it comes to gameplay in Dead Rising 2 is the ability to combine two weapons to make a single more powerful one. Chuck can do this by taking the items to a Maintainence Room, which can be found in throughout the city.
Here chuck can combine baseball bats with a box of nails to make a spiked bat among other things. Not only do these weapons pack a heavier punch, but they also earn extra PP in the process.
Unlocking these combinations requires players to level up or save survivors as they will often hand over Combo cards revealing what two items can be combined.
Chuck also has plenty of vehicles he can use throughout the game, ranging from sports cars and motocross bikes, to a pink tricycle and carts.
