Dead Space 2 and Marvel vs. Capcom 3, 2011 through the eyes of a gamer – Part 3
This is a continuation of the previous two articles in the series. The introduction to Dead Space 2 was given in the previous article.
Dead Space games are known for a number of things; being one of the most goriest and graphic is one, providing just enough role playing elements to give it that specific flavour and being able to scare a grown man out of his pants.
Dead Space 2 stayed true to the award winning formula of the first, though the portions of element were tweaked and it left many feeling that the second instalment was more of an action/horror game than the original survival/horror.
Whether or not that was a bad thing is still up for debate as some of the purists preferred being low on ammunition against foes that needed surgical precision to take down instead of the usual blind firing. The change from the first game was not as drastic
as some would make the reader believe but one could still feel it.
The game was an instant hit with critics and review sites and managed to rack up an impressive average rating of 87 percent on Metacritic for its PC version, while the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions scored 89 percent and 90 percent, respectively.
Dead Space 2 was no walk in the park by any stretch of the imagination as the game featured a special mode where the player was only allowed three games saves and the challenge was to finish the entire game on the hardest difficulty setting.
If anything that mode brought out exactly what Dead Space was all about and although it truly was a challenge, many gamers enjoyed it while others probably threw their controllers out the window in frustration.
Multiplayer however, was another story altogether as it was slated by almost everyone. There was some fun to be had with the various game modes but it did not grip the gaming public as much as other games and the experience became repetitive sooner rather
than later.
Moving on from the dark claustrophobic corridors and into the world of comic book characters taking on their iconic video game counterparts as
Marvel vs. Capcom 3: Fate of Two Worlds was the next year shaping title to be released.
The highly anticipated three-quell hit stores nearly a month after Dead Space 2 on February 15. Hitting both the consoles, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, the game was well received by comic book fans and gamers alike.
The roster of characters in the game was extensive and it did not shy away from throwing a number of big names from both franchises in the mix. Wolverine, Deadpool, The Hulk, Iron Man and Captain America made up the most well known characters from the Marvel
universe of comics, while Capcom had Albert Wesker and Chris Redfield from the Resident Evil series on offer as well as Ryu and Chun Li from Street Fighter and Dante from Devil May Cry thrown in for good measure as well.
