Electronic Arts used E3 to not only reveal both CryTek’s Crysis 3 and Visceral Games’ Dead Space 3 but it also announced the release dates for both titles and it turns out they are both set to hit stores in the same month.
Dead Space was one of the most surprisingly brilliant games when it was released. The title had flown under many radars and very few gamers knew about it. However, the triple-A survival-horror title from Visceral games hit the nail on the head and put the word horror back in survival-horror.
The game was an unapologetic gore-fest with gruesome deaths and a claustrophobic, isolated atmosphere that really grew on the player. The game was a statement that survival-horror still had a place in the gaming industry.
Dead Space 2 built on the original’s success and EA seemed to have found no reason to slow down as they revealed Dead Space 3 during their press conference at E3. The game featured a live demo of the cooperative gameplay element that has been introduced in the latest title, as the developers seem to want to take the game in a new, fresh direction.
Many fans are slightly worried that the co-op element may make the game less of a ‘horror’ experience but whether or not that is the case remains to be seen as the game is set to hit stores in February next year.
Another game set to release during the same month is Crysis 3. The first-person shooter known for its eye-poppingly gorgeous visuals and rather standard first-person shooter elements is also set to release alongside its survival-horror brother from another mother.
The demo for Crysis 3 showed off some of the gameplay that gamers can expect from the next title as well as the environment they will be playing in. It turns out that the third instalment in the series is set to take place in a jungle version of the urban jungle i.e. New York City with a lot of trees and plants and very few people.
It seems that gamers will either have to choose what to get themselves for Valentine’s Day, or if they do have a significant other, have to predict which game they will be getting for themselves and which game they will be asking for as a gift.
