BT Games listed EA’s third instalment in the series on their website before taking it down and replacing it with the “latest release in the Dead Space franchise”. Nice save...not!
The video game industry is an interesting one in the sense that one can get information from a number of sources. Usually one would expect a publisher or a developer to announce their latest offering with a few screenshots or a trailer. On other occasions
the information may be leaked by a third-party.
That is the case with Dead Space 3 as South African video game retailer, BT Games, listed the as yet unannounced game on its website and made it available for pre-ordering.
It is not the first time that the website has leaked a title before time as in the past it also listed the Jak and Daxter HD Collection as well as the still unannounced God of War 4. At the same time it also leaked the news about Mass Effect 3 having a multiplayer
component as well.
So as far as credibility goes, it seems that the South African retailer has a solid enough reputation. What’s even more interesting is how they covered up the leak, or rather at how weakly they covered it up.
The original listing for Dead Space 3 by EA was taken down and replaced by the “latest release in the Dead Space franchise”, which is pretty much the exact same thing. However, one point that was rather confusing was how they changed the publisher from EA
to 2K Games as well as changing the release date of the game to 2011.
In the end, all one can say is ‘busted!’ and the lack of effort to cover up only confirms what everyone already knew about a third Dead Space game. The listing however, helps narrow things down in terms of a release date as one can expect the game to hit
shelves in a couple of months.
Dead Space 3 is set to continue the story of Isaac Clarke’s struggle against the Marker and is set to take place on an icy planet with a ‘shadow Isaac’ haunting him every step of the way.
