What is the dead and live loading for a hot tub on a deck?

  1. the dead load is the weight of the empty tub structure + the weight of the water at 8.4 lbs/gallon + the weight of the deck framing and other dead load fixtures of the deck such as guardrails, stair connections, etc.

    The live load is dependent on the local building codes in your area.  Typcially the live load would be based on the occupancy of the building.  I would design the deck for a live load of at least 40 psf.

Depends upon the capacity of the hot tub.  Water weighs 8 lbs per gallon; multiply by the capacity of the tub.  Add that to the empty weight of the tub.  Divide this number by the area the tub occupies and add the pound per square foot weight of any deck flooring.   This will comprise your dead load.  Most building codes require decks to support a live load of 40 pounds per square foot.
