Question:

Dead armadillo in pool...?

I found it this morning when I was about to jump in off the diving board. I got my brother to help me pull it out soon after. I just want to make sure it's safe to swim. The water is still blue, and I know it wasn't in there for more than three days because we celebrated the 4th. It still had a pink tone to its skin on its front side and there was no odor so I don't think it was dead for long. And this must not be very common because I found absolutely no questions about an armadillo in a pool, lol.

  1. chlorine is put in pools to kill all germs so i would just dump a bunch of chlorine in your pool and wait a day. if not then call or go to a pool place and ask them "i found a dead animal in my pool. is there any products that could kill any of the germs that it left or diseases that it carried?" the only other thing i could think of is if you drain your pool. i know that would be a pain but would you rather get deathly ill or go swimming?

  2. Armadillos are known carriers of leprosy and that would be the  main reason I wouldn't hop right back in the pool. However, leprosy from armadillos has only been contracted by eating armadillo meat so you're probably okay. Maybe you should contact a vet or other animal expert to be sure.
