Dead body found on East Sussex golf course
This year golf has been more in news not due to tournaments and play offs, but because of the scandals and murders. This one is a first. Golf, which is thought of such a noble game with gentlemen in it didn’t really turn out like that this year. With first the gossip being about the Tiger Woods s*x scandal, now golf has made headlines with a possible murder on a golf course.  A dead body was discovered on the East Sussex Golf Course on September 4th by golfers, who were playing at the d**e Golf club.
The discovery that was made just before noon on Saturday sparked fear in the outskirts of Brighton and caught attention of the media. The golfers were taken aback as they found the charred and mutilated remains of a body. Officials say that the body was burned to such an extent that they couldn’t even figure out how old the person was. The condition was so horrific that it was hard to tell whether the body was of man or a woman.
Also they said that the body was missing a foot below the shin. Police is not sure whether the foot was removed before or after death. The police said the missing foot may have been eaten by an animal. After the body was discovered between the 17th and 18th holes, the Sussex Police’s major crime branch asked for the help of the public as they tried to figure out the order of events that lead to the corpse being discovered.
The head professional at the club, Mark Stuart-William said that the last three holes were closed off while the police completed their inquiry. He said that this is not an everyday thing, he’s been in professional golf since sixteen years and haven’t heard of anything happen. Well very smart there Mark, that is why cemetery and golf courses are two different things. You can’t just expect a dead body to be lying on a golf course.
He also said that since this happened when not many people were on the course, it hasn’t made an impact on how often the course is visited by players.
After investigation the police have discovered that the body was of man in his late teens or early twenties. He had distinctive tattoos where one of the tattoos was unfinished and was on his shoulders. According to Detective Chief Inspector Trevor Bowles, of Sussex Police, the man was murdered, moved to the golf course and set alight. Who ever thought that they could get away with this was very stupid since a gold course is a pretty smooth and clear place for a body to be seen.
They also reported that the body has been there for no more than two days and that it was injured. This assertion came true after the post-mortem that revealed that the death occurred due to a harsh blow to the head. It is still unclear as to what caused the head injury.
Detective Chief Inspector Trevor Bowles, who is leading the Sussex Police Major Crime Branch enquiry, said "We know that the man was probably in his late teens or 20s, was 5' 4" and of very slim build. What is particularly significant is that he had an upper dental plate with five false teeth, very unusual in a person of that age."
In an attempt to figure out who the man was, the police sent in DNA samples for analysis. Yesterday, the burnt body was finally identified. The match revealed that the poor man to meet such a fate was the 37-year old Stefan Welch, from Brighton, East Sussex. The family and friends of Stevan said that he was not a violent or malicious person. They are going through a hard time trying to cope with their loss.
This is not the first time a body was found at a golf course.  In 2008, a body was discovered at the Carnoustie golf course in Scotland. Much like this time, the body was burnt back then as well. The link between burnt dead bodies and golf courses is very unclear. But where golf captures news about championships and cups, it surely doesn’t fear to go to the ‘bad side’.
