Dead body?

Question

let's say you find a body of a person who died in their sleep, it has been 12 hours since they have died.

you look at them and of course, they have their eyes close, but what if you looked at them again and now they have their eyes open,(still dead) would that be consider normal?

um...and how long does it take before the body starts to decompose?

You know some of the uneducated BS answers I see on Yahoo! make me truly angry.

Bodies do not move after death, never, ever, ever, ever. For those of you who say but my friends mom saw it or my aunt was there or who ever else told you this happens they are LYING to you.

As for your question the person's eyes were probably opened to partial and you just did not notice. The eyes will naturally do that this is because all the muscles in the body become truly relaxed. Once again this is the reason that you cant close a dead persons eyes. Decomp begins with in 2 seconds of death, starting with the eyes. This called greying over. The gastric fluids start to build gas with in minutes of death, and they will continue to build. The on set of rig. "stiffening" starts with in 6-12 hours depending on external factors and realeases in 6-12 hours after peak. Liver also sets in with in 1-3 hours of death, this is the pooling of the blood and is defined by gravity. A stench or smell with begin with in hours or days depending on external factors. I know what you think you saw in regards to the eyes but it just is not plausable. Dead bodies are not toys please dispose of the remains as they are going to stink up your house with summer comming trust me you don't want that...........

wow that is a bit morbid from my view. lol. but The eyes can open, arms move, body sit up after death because of muscle response to death, ie loss of oxygen and other chemicals. or something like that. check out the link below for more information.

The eyes can open from excess left over nervous system stuff..

they will decompose pretty fast, starting in 24 more hours, finishing in a week or two.

decomp starts once dead but it takes a long while to complete heat humidity bugs etc have an impact

If the eyes popped open this may be considered a post mortem reflex, since this is often seen in dead bodies. Such as we all know with the chicken running around with its head cut off. The body is in shock. Though after 12hrs of death that would be rather strange.

A body starts to decompose  at death.The rate of decomposition depends on the environment. A body exposed to air decomposes rapidly, while one that has been buried decomposes much more slowly, etc.

it's very possible  - due to muscles

takes a couple of days to start decomposing
