Deadlock between http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Javed-Miandad-c66580 and PCB broken after intervention from Chairman Ijaz Butt
A deadlock between the Pakistan Cricket Board and former Pakistan cricketer Javed Miandad has finally been broken after the former coach had a discussion with the board’s chairman Ijaz Butt.
Miandad will be working as a batting consultant in the training camp which will begin from tomorrow in Lahore. However, the question of Javed accompanying the team in New Zealand has still been left unanswered.
Last week, the Pakistan Cricket Board appointed Miandad as the batting consultant for the national team; Javed tentatively accepted the assignment but then retracted because of some terms in the contract that were unacceptable
for the former batsman.
The agreement hit a deadlock when it was made clear to Javed that he would be working under the head coach Waqar Younis. Javed wanted to work independently but that request was rejected by the board.
Earlier, Pakistan’s head coach Waqar Younis had also said that he had no problems working with Javed but insisted that the team planning was not Javed’s domain. Waqar said that he would gladly send the players to get batting tips
from Miandad. However, the batting consultant was advised to refrain from giving his input in the strategy forming phase.
These statements by Waqar irked Miandad and he reacted by stating that he was much senior than Waqar and working under a junior player will be a difficult thing for him.
After this war of words between the two legends of cricket, things hung in limbo and it was not clear whether Javed would be taking up his new assignment or not.
The Chairman of the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ijaz-Butt-c64128 was finally successful in convincing Javed to take up his new assignment and help the players
in improving their batting skills in the training camp with immediate effect. As per the issue of Miandad going to New Zealand, Butt said, "..he will let us know in a few days time if he is going to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 with the team as well.”
