I live in Virginia and I am looking for 4-year colleges that offer ASL (American Sign Language) or the Special Education: Deaf and Hard of Hearing courses. I know Radford University has it I was wondering if anyone knew any other VA colleges that offered it. I am hoping to be able to teach ASL to young deaf children but it is hard to find specifics. Thanks for any help.

  1. Well, I was going to suggest this website:

    http://www.deafed.net/PageText.asp?hdnPa...

but...they don't list any VA schools other than Radford. Maybe there's one in another state close by...

You say you want to teach ASL to young Deaf children...I'm unsure if you just want to teach ASL or if you want to teach the Deaf students with ASL (instead of English). ASL teachers usually end up teaching more than just Deaf students. I don't know about other states, but in Texas the requirements for Deaf Ed teachers and ASL teachers are different-I won't go into detail because TX is weird and it doesn't matter =), but you may want to check into that in your state.

    Hope this helped a little...

  2. Bloomberg university in pa. I am not sure about ones in virginia. I think that Deaf.org has a list of schools. Did you try doing an internet search?

I am fluent in Hearing, fluent in ASL. I went undergrad for Speech and Aud, but I am considering Deaf ed for grad school.
