Deal Struck: Zack Greinke heads over to the Milwaukee Brewers
The Kansas City Royals will be more than happy on seeing Zack Greinke leave their outfit. There wasn’t bad blood between the two parties but there was the prospect of landing 4 top prospects which had to take a priority note for the club. The Milwaukee Brewers
came over knocking for Zack and in exchange they offered 4 top upcoming players in their treasure chest.
Centre Fielder – Lorenzo Cain, Shortstop – Alcides Escobar, Pitching Duo – Jeremy Jeffress and Jake Odorizzi were the players that made way to the Royals. The Brewers, however, attained Zack Greinke, Yuniesky Betancourt and cash for their endeavours. The
trade deal saw both parties go on happy with their conduct in the prevailing days.
The Brewers, who sacrificed another rising prospect for Shaun Marcum earlier, have been in need for quick pitching replacements. Their existing ball throwing rotation suffers from lack of depth and that has many wondering about their future success rate.
Their reason behind the additions seem reasonable as a similar move, last season around availed them Carsten Charles Sabathia. The player led the team to the playoffs and gave them the opportunity to make a difference.
The Royals, however, will be dubbed as the likely winners of the deal. It was already understood that General Manager Dayton Moore was in dire need of recruits in all positions in the field. Pitchers, fielders and hitters were the focus and the team did
its best to land the top rated players in the squad. Moore was able to talk about Zack and explained the situation.
"There's a lot of speculation about Zack and his willingness or unwillingness to be here," Moore said. "I've had several conversations with Zack since the Winter Meetings, and he made it very clear that he was looking for potential opportunities elsewhere,
but at the same time, he understood our position, as well. We weren't swayed in any way to move him prior to Spring Training. It had to be the right deal, and this deal makes sense for us."
The Kansas City Royals would have been willing to spare Greinke a negotiation process but when the player went on to hire Casey Close, a mutual deal seemed unlikely.
"We would love to be sitting here discussing a long-term contract with Zack Greinke," Dayton Moore said. "You want to hold on to your best players forever. That's a formula for winning championships, as well. But there has to be a winning partner to go forward
with that. We actually went down that trail and discussed that trail with Zack long-term, and it was apparent that that wasn't something that he wanted to do."
