Deal helps Miami Dolphins rookie QB Ryan Tannehill come to action, impresses as starter – NFL News
Rookie quarterback Ryan Tannehill, who was given the starting snaps opportunity on the past weekend, has proved he has a great potential to become an elite QB in the National Football League (NFL).
Ryan – a Miami Dolphins’ signing off the 2012 NFL draft in April – was given the first starting snaps turn after the team fulfilled the condition of his signing by landing him a contract on past Saturday.
The deal, terms of which were not disclosed until filing of this report, has facilitated arrival of the player in Miami from IMG Performance Institute in Bradenton where he had been taking private offence lessons.
He was placed with the starting team exactly nine hours after he rejoined the squad, and he impressed the onlookers and the team’s coaches from his very first throw.
Dolphins’ offensive coordinator Mike Sherman said:
"I thought he'd be a little bit rusty today, but I thought he was pretty much on task on just about everything he did. He didn't seem to miss a beat."
The QB could not help hide his excitement, which also reflects that he has certainly picked up the offence knowledge and techniques at the academy.
He said:
"I was hoping I could get it done on my birthday. That would have been a great birthday present. Unfortunately, it had to happen one day later. At the end of the day, this is a business and now I've got the business aspect out of it for the next few years
and I'm ready to go out and play football."
The Dolphins had not signed the player until the last week due to a delay in the negotiation process, which was a result of emergence of some differences with the team. This made him miss the initial couple of days of the team’s training camp, as according
to the rules of the NFL, a rookie has to be under contract to take a part in any team activity.
Ryan’s first impression is impressive and it now depends on how well he goes in the rest of the practice. He is most likely to be given the leading role if remains equally skilful and promising throughout the camp.
