Deal to trade Ryan Dempster to Atlanta Braves in exchange for Randall Delgado imminent – MLB News
There have been rumours emanating from the Atlanta Braves and the Chicago Cubs’ club-house about the trade of Ryan Dempster to the former with the effect that Randall Delgado will be given in exchange.
On Monday, it has come out that both the organisation are about to give the deal a final touch and make it effective as soon as possible.
Behind the move underlies a dire need for the Braves to have the kind of starter on the rotation that can help them sail through the second half of the season. Ever since their starting pitcher Brandon Beachy has been injured, the rest of the starters on
rotation have failed to take his role and put up solid shows consistently.
Despite the fact Atlanta boasts hurlers like Tim Hudson and Tommy Hanson, someone who can maintain as low an ERA as Beachy did during his time in the season remains to be seen. In light of this, the fact Ryan Dempster has been incredible with regard to blocking
runs this year, as he certainly possesses the credentials to replace Beachy.
However, as per the reports, while the Braves are in a look-out for a quality starter, Dempster has not confirmed the acceptance of the deal from his part as yet. Until then, one can brace for interesting speculations coming off from the various quarters.
Meanwhile, Cubs’ manager Dale Sveum seems uninformed as he has not learned anything about the deal as yet.
"I found out about it when I came off the field after early (batting practice)," Dale Sveum said. "Somebody said they saw it on the website. So I got on the website and saw it and called the higher ups to make sure. And they were like 'No, nothing is happening.
I don't know where that came from.' That's where we are with that."
What may make it difficult for the deal to be approved is the fact Dempster enjoys trade protection in his existing deal with the club. In other words, he holds control to a great extent over where the Cubs can send him.
Therefore, one will be curious to know where the starting pitcher will like to go if he refuses going to the Braves.
