Question:

Dealer Wages?

I was thinking of applying for a dealer position at a medium sized casino in Milwaukee. My understanding is that you have to learn to deal all games and that you make a small wage and that the tips are split amongst the dealers. Does anyone know approximately how muh that might be? I have lived in the corporate world for the last 25 years, my position was eliminated and I want to move ino something I would like rather then something I have to do.

  1. Here in Connecticut, dealers at Foxwoods are paid $4 per hour, and then as you thought all dealers split the tips collected.

Generally a dealer will pull in another $10 per hour from tips, but this is dependent upon the time of day, week, month, and year.  Obviously it's not always the same.  If you're working a weekend, you'll probably have an above average tip day.

Most dealers end up making roughly $30-$35,000 per year.

  2. Everywhere is different, but here in Vegas most casinos you keep your tips that you make in cash games, But some casinos are now pooling there tips so it just depends. But you will only make min wage, but you are going to make good tips when you get into a good casino that the low wage will not matter. If your spending your paycheck on anything but fun money, then your not making enough in tips. But the medical and dental plans are great here, if you get hurt you are taken care of. When you first start out you will most likely have to start out at a lower level casino until you get better at dealing, and since you will be slower at first as well, you will not make as much in tips to start. If i get out 33 hands per hour, and you only get out 24 hands per hour of course I'm going to make more money then you will. So go to a dealer school first, this will help you get the job you want as well as getting some hands on. People think dealing is so easy, but it is not, everything from how you hold the deck and in the order you do things matter. When you have 4 all-ins and 3 side pots, it can be confusing in knowing the right rake from each pot, and who is in for what pot. So good luck.
