Question:

Dealing with nerves and anxiety?

Okay, so it's just gone 3.30 am where I am situated, and in around 6 hours I have to head on down to my school and find out my GCSE results.

I am so incredibly nervous! At the beginning of year 11, I was predicted 15 A*-B, but in the recent MOCKs I didn't do as well as I hoped I would.

I'm worried I'll disappoint my parents (that sounds somewhat childish, I know)

So does anyone know of any ways I can calm my nerves, or even get some sleep (I don't feel at all tired and am unsure of whether to just stay up or not).

Thank you in advance.

  1. It doesn't matter. As long as you get good pass grades, that'll be enough to get to A levels and then university. I understand that you may feel disappointed, or you'll be worried in case you disappoint your parents, but they should be happy with whatever marks you get. If they're not, then that's completely their problem.

You could try some relaxation exercises, listen to some relaxing music, meditate, have a warm bath, have a hot drink, read a light book. Try to get some sleep because sleep deprivation can make things seem worse than they are. It can also make you more anxious and tearful - not good when you're getting exam results.

Good luck and I'm sure you've done better than in your mocks. Most of my friends did!

    xx

  2. I would stay up of I were you, it might do you more harm to sleep for such a little time. For now, I would read a good book, watch your 3 favorite movies, and go for a walk. Good luck!

  3. I'm sorry you feel like you have to impress/satisfy someone else (your parents) with your scores, but remember the things that make you happy in life, and realize that they will still be there after your scores come out.

You'll see them, walk home, and life will continue.

It seems like a big deal now, and it is important, but the truly important things will remain.

No need to get sleep, you might be calmer tomorrow (er, in 6 hours) if you're kind of dazed and the situation feels surreal.

I'm sure you'll do great (the people who won't do well are the people who don't care enough to stay up all night worrying about it).
