Question:

Dealing with ugly paneling in a rented house...?

Ok, so my fiance & I are renting one of his parent's houses and the living room has this hideous faux wood paneling. Well they actually LIKE the c**p and don't want it to be painted... even though we would cover all the costs. Is there anything I can do as an alternative temporary fix or cover? It's just so gross and I'm down for nearly anything just to hide it's nastiness. Or if anyone has any ideas on how I can convince them to let me paint it. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

  1. Find some pix on line of painted paneling and show them how it improves the whole look! Other than that....try hanging pix from top to bottom with maybe some fabric draped behind the pix! If all else fails...tell your fiance to handle his parents...he should be able to say how ugly it is and leave you out of it!

  2. Painting over any kind of paneling or wallpaper is just wrong!Take it out!  Remove it!  You probably won't even need to paint.  Deconstruct it carefully, and when you move out, you can put it back.

  3. I had a friend who covered one whole wall with curtains??

That might work for one or two walls !

For the other walls, use large furnitures, TV's and wall units?

    Good Luck !
