http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 middle-order batsman, Dean Brownlie, is jubilant after hitting a classy half-century on his debut, and said that he played positive cricket as per the need of the situation.
The Black Caps are currently on tour to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045, where they are aiming to seal one-off Test after winning the ODI series. In his debut Test, Brownlie demonstrated an impressive show and propped his side up to an imposing first innings total of 426 by smashing
a thrilling fifty.
During his stay at the crease, the young lad amassed 63 runs including seven cracking boundaries.
The 27-year-old admitted that he was a bit nervous at the start but he did not let the pressure mount on him and played his natural game.
'If you'd told me I'd get 63 at the start, I probably would have taken that in my first innings. I was probably a little bit more nervous than usual but once I got into it I just had to trust my game and my instincts that got me there to start with,'' Brownlie
told Stuff.co.nz.
The debutant went out to the middle in the second over of the day, after the skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DL-Vettori-c1384, Brownlie gifted his wicket
to Ray Price, attempting a slog sweep that resulted in a thick edge straight to slip fielder.
When asked about his reckless stroke after batting superbly for his 63, he responded, “Obviously you'd like to get more and push on to a hundred but the situation required me to be positive and look to score quickly."
The Zimbabwean spinners bowled really well on the second day and Price – in particular – gave a lot of tough time to the Kiwis. Yet, Brownlie looked as comfortable as ever, pushing the ball into the gaps both on back and front foot.
Talking about his batting expertise against the slow bowlers, the Australia-born cricketer stated, “Growing up in Perth, you obviously get tested with the short ball quite a bit and I feel comfortable off the back foot.''
