Dean Powell believes Carlos Molina is the perfect comeback opponent for Khan – Boxing News
Dean Powell, former trainer for Amir Khan, thinks the Briton fighter can make a strong comeback against unbeaten American fighter Carlos Molina. According to Powell, Golden Boy Promotions have picked the ideal for Khan to revive his career.
“Eric Gomez and Robert Diaz at Golden Boy Promotions have picked a perfect opponent for Amir to come back against,” said Powell, who is now Frank Warren’s main matchmaker.
“Molina is not a big puncher, but he does have quick enough hands to give him something to think about,” he added.
It is a well documented fact that Khan can never stand against hard punchers, and therefore Molina makes sense as his comeback opponent.
Khan will be entering the fight with two recent losses, one against American fighter Lamont Peterson and the other against unbeaten American fighter Danny Garcia. For Khan, this match will decide his future. A loss can push him back further into darkness
while a win can give the much needed boost to rise again.
“I wasn't surprised at all when Amir split from Freddie’s gym. In fact, I thought it would happen sooner. He is the sort of lad that needs one-on-one attention and he clearly wasn't getting that,” said Powell regarding Khan’s split with Freddie Roach following
his defeat against Garcia.
Khan takes on Molina tomorrow, December 15 to decide the fate of his boxing career. He is now working with American trainer Virgil Hunter in order to complete revamp his fighting skills. However, his former trainer Freddie Roach believes there is not much
Hunter can change in Khan, as the Briton is by nature an offensive fighter.
On the other hand, Hunter has revealed that Khan is on his way to become a better fight, as he is now playing smarter moves than before. Even Khan admitted that previously he used to box wildly but now he is more of a smart fighters who know how to use his
head in the game.
If all goes well, Khan will be reviving his career against Molina, to once again dream of super-fights against Floyd Mayweather Jr.
