Deandre Latimore challenges “El Perro” in Mexico
Following the news that WBC No.1 junior middleweight contender Alfredo Angulo faces deportation and has been cut off from HBO appearances until he can demonstrate legal status, Deandre “The Bull” Latimore has a solution for "El Perro."
Latimore said he will fight Angulo in his native Mexico: "I am willing to fight him in Mexico tomorrow. Just tell me when and my bags are packed. His team can work on his immigration problems and in the mean time he can fight me."
Latimore, a St-Louis native, believes that a bout between him and “El Perro” would be a war, because both fighters bring entertaining and wild styles to the table. It would be just the kind of bout that fans have been asking for and is ultimately good for
boxing.
"I think a fight between Angulo and myself is what the fans have been waiting on. Two guys going back and forth banging like there's no tomorrow," Latimore said.
Last year Latimore fought a close battle with Cory Spinks for the IBF junior middleweight title. He lost narrowly, but won the respect of many. Since then, he defeated veteran Sammy Sparkman in a ten round bout and secured his place as a legitimate contender.
Latimore feels a bout with Angulo would rocket him into a second chance at a title.
"'l just want to give the fans what they want which is a great fight and I want to give HBO a new face,” he said.
With 16 knockouts in 20 professional wins, Latimore matches Angulo’s power.
Angulo has been the subject of much talk recently after Michael Marley of the Boxing Examiner suggested he could be deported for being in the United States illegally. Bob Arum among others weighed in on the news, and HBO issued Angulo a letter saying that
he must demonstrate his legal citizenship.
In response Angulo said his papers recently expired but that he doesn’t anticipate renewing them. He likewise said he was frustrated with media reporters who were unfairly exaggerating his case. "I don't have the faintest idea why they are doing this,”
he said. “I think the comments were made by Top Rank, but I'm not sure. If I had a problem, I wouldn't be here."
