Dear Moms out there, what do you think about bottle-feed breast milk? ?

I know that some babies wake up in the middle of the night, so I am thinking about doing that at night so my wife can sleep better. Is that an option?

  1. it sure can be an option.

my husband did it for me when our son was first born so i could get a little extra sleep.

  2. s well, not just for hunger. sometimes my baby will DEMAND that even after I feed her a bottle of pumped breast milk of 5 0z (which is a lot for a 5-week-old) she will STILL want to be nursed bc it reassures her.

  3. Sure you can do that. Of course your wife will have to pump enough breastmilk to last thru each night. There is absolutley nothing wrong with breastfeeding, formula feeding or giving your baby breastmilk thru a bottle. I am sure your wife would really apperciate getting to sleep all night. Dang what a good husband you are..lol

  4. I think its a good idea.

  5. Sure, if your baby will take both bottle and breast without problem.  My son was in daycare two months after he was born, and I sent pumped breast milk for him.  He nursed for 13 months with no problem.  But I only used the pumped milk during the daytime.  In the mornings and evenings, I always just nursed him.  I had no problem returning to sleep though, but it sounds like your wife may need more rest.  So it's definitely an option if your baby is amenable!

  6. That is a great idea.  Many women pump and latch.  There is nothing wrong with that.  The baby is getting breast milk.

  7. i think you doing a great thing by doing that for your wife, and plus you get to bond more with your baby.

  8. I wish my boyfriend was as considerate as you lol, im still breastfeeding and wake up 5 times a night to feed her. If she can express that much and you really want to help her then yes i would recommend it, you will bond with your baby as well :) Good Luck!

  9. It is an option..but alot of the time a breastfed baby will nurse at night to increase milk supply and comfort from mommy.....she needs to learn to nurse her baby laying down...it is a lifesaver...

  10. I had to resort to bottle feeding because my baby wont hardly nurse. I personally think its fine. My hubby gets to feed the baby that way it helps alot. I just have to pump.

  11. Absolutely! Alot of woman have to do it anyway due to breast feeding problems. Also when you feed your baby that will be a very special bonding time for you!Enjoy it =] And might I add AWWWWW what a sweety you are to help your wife!Congrats and good luck!

  12. That is very nice of you. How old is your child? A mother with a newborn would love the sleep but if she sleeps for to long without expressing her milk (4-5) she will wake up in a lot of pain because her breast will be very engorged and it will be hard for the baby to latch on. You can always wake up to get the baby, change her/his diaper, then give them to mom and then after the feeding is done put the baby back into bed.

  13. I think that would be a good idea - maybe not right away, allow some time for your baby to get used to the human nipples before you introduce rubber ones.

One thing to remember, during breast feeding, the milk changes - it starts at the beginning of the feed as thin, watery looking milk "fore milk" - this is great to quench the baby's thirst.

As feeding continues, the milk becomes richer, it is now the "hind milk" which satisfies the baby's hunger better.

Okay, stay with me here - if your wife pumps breast milk so that you can feed the baby during the night, make sure that it is not all "fore milk" otherwise the baby may not be satisfied, and might not sleep very long.

I nursed all my babies, and at one point my youngest would wake up hungry early in the morning.  I was able to get her to sleep longer by pumping the rich "hind milk" at the end of each feed, and feeding the 3 - 4 oz after her last feed of the day!

She would sleep like a rock - she did not wake up hungry when I did that and I got a fabulous night's sleep every time!

    Good Luck!
