  1. B'coz without deep frying or cooking you'll not get taste. You can't say unhealthiest but less of nutrition food.

    pkn

  2. There is a danger in eating uncooked or partially cooked food in India .....they may be contaminated with so many undesirable things.

  3. I must differ with you. Indian food, basically consists of healthy food. It is up to you how you cook and eat food either in healthy or unhealthy way.

Unfortunately, because of the wrong influences(advertising, wrong info, ignorance), we choose to eat wrong kind of food. Because of what our tongue wants, we ignore what our body really needs.

Traditionally Indian food system is divided in three ways : -

Satvic food: More of vegetables, fruits, grains etc with minimum of spices. it is easily digested and builds immunity. No alcohole, tea/coffee or non vegetarian food. Only natural sweeteners such as honey, jaggery is used.

Rajasic food: It is fresh but heavy to digest. It is cooked with more spices and oil. Such as curries, sweets with too much fat and sugar.

Tamasic food - Deep fried, overcooked, stale, too much processed , too spicy food. Most junk food/fast food comes into this category.

Your regular diet should consist of Satvic food. Rajasic food can be eaten once in a while. Tamasic food is best avoided.

I think you are only thinking of cooking as mainly with deep frying or overcooking/over processed. That is mostly done for junk food or fast food. And that kind of food is most popular and more people eat that. Also, more people eat out where food is tasty but contains more spices and oil.

Indian food consists of all kinds of food. There are also different ways to cook the food. Such as boiling, steaming, roasting, shallow frying, deep frying.

Your food is healthy or unhealthy depending on what way you/your family  chooses to cook. Choose healthy way such as boiling/steaming instead of deep frying. If you cook the restaurant food at home, you can control the amount of oil and spices.

If we become more aware of what and how we eat, how that food is cooked etc, we can follow the healthy practices. Those who are not aware of this will continue to prepare and eat unhealthy food.

I know it is easier said than done. Generally, only when people start having health problems, they start paying attention to what they eat or don't eat. By then, they are already in the habit of eating wrong food and the change over to healthy food is difficult.  But I think it is never too late to do the right thing. You can still benefit from that.

In my house, as a mother and homemaker, I cook mostly the Satvic food. We do enjoy the Rajasic food (curries, deepfried stuff)once in a while.

    Best wishes!

  4. I dont think Indian foods r unhealthiest. Have u tasted da food of da Noth East Indians??? its superv....try  them out....

  5. Yes,that's so true.

I don't use any cooking oils or fats unless i absolutely have too.

I thankfully loathe Indian cuisine, its too spicy for me,so i don't have to ingest the vast amount of calories in their meals.

Funny thing seeing this question,as on itv the other morning they did a survey on Indian meals etc,and one meal alone had over 3500 calories in it!!.can you imagineone person eating all that at one sitting?

  6. yes definitely,

                    we r loosing our treasures.

before adapt new things we shd think well and analyse well. most of us not doing we seeking for modern, attractive look and easy to prepare.

thats why we r loosing our health also future generations health.

Our forefathers did the things as suitable to our country atmosphere  etc.

We shd not think  we only intelligents.

bcos our forefathers too r intelligents.

thanks for ur sharing , this shows ur care abt society.

  7. yes.I do.we should change our food habits alng with many other habits.

  8. Yes I very much agree with you!

I suspect that there once was a time in history when people from the subcontinent were the healthiest in the world. India is the land of Ayurveda, the country in which medicine, knowledge of the body was founded by the sages. It is true that much of the 'traditional' food we eat is deeply rooted in our culture but nevertheless, today, the middle-class Indian is exploiting himself by consuming for his tongue rather than his health.

Yes the food may taste delicious, but it is very, very unhealthy. I don't live in India myself (i'm in Australia, the fattest nation in the world), but when I visit i see that the side streets are littered with samosa or 'batata vada' vendors. Indians have a nak for cooking in oil, every meal essentially consists of a subji of which the first ingredient is oil. On top of that ghee is a must for many people. Then there are the sweets, it is never ending.

Is it really a coincidence that European nations (the meat eaters) are among the healthiest in the world (with even America in the top ten). This is a shame to India. The average Indian has no interest in exercise and nutrition, why else are all over 40's having grey hair and are overweight.

Subji's should be eaten even more raw, less oil and good oil should be used. Don't put ghee on your rotis, eat less or no rice.

I think every human should live by the principle of 'mitahara'. As swami sivananda has said; fill 1/2 stomach with food, 1/4 with water and leave 1/4 free for the expansion of gasses. Eat only foods that are sattvic in nature and eat only when hungry.

By the way, I think a major problem in India is that people eat their evening meals too late, 9pm or later. In western countries they say dinner should be light, few carbs, no fat, more protein and eaten from 6-7 pm.

  9. Calories it the cause of all problems...

deep fried or not... Veg or Non Veg...

as long as Calories count is acceptable on a daily basis... you'll remain healthy..

  10. think samosas - they're like sponges soaked in oil

    taste great though :)

  11. yup thetastes comes with over fry or over cooking

so u can no way avoid it because ur taste buds r used to it
