can you give me few points on how can a teacher see that a child has help applicable to the time before beginning to read? im doing a survey so i want to get more info about this.. please help..

  1. Children need early reading skills first, such as concepts of print and letter identification.  Children need to understand that print carries a message, and that pictures can help us figure out what the message is.  They need to know how print flows.  In English, this would mean that the print flows from left to right, and from the top of the page to the bottom.  They need to know how to hold a book, and how to turn the pages.  They need to know why we read, sometimes for information, sometimes for pleasure.  They need to recognize letters and understand that each letter represents certain sounds, and it helps to teach writing as they are learning these concepts.
