  1. who cares about being inhumane to the criminal?

    get real

  2. I would say lethal gas because it takes a long time and is the only method that requires the inmate to participate in his own execution by breathing. Inmates are told to breathe deeply because it will make them lose conciousness more quickly. Electrocution is inhumane if it goes wrong, the prisoner can burn or may not lose conciousness at the adminsistration of the first shock. Hanging is inhumane when the drop is too short because the inmate strangles slowly to death. Firing squad is inhumane if the bullets miss, as the prisoner may be in pain while waiting for the final killing shot to be administered. Lethal injection is inhumane if the initial dose of sedative wears off before the inmate is dead as they willbe concious while being given the second and third injections which means they will feel extreme burning in their veins and a sensation akin to being pressed to death as the lungs collapse and the inmate suffocates. Beheading is inhumane if the executioner does not sever the head first time because the inmate may still be concious while the executioner hacks away at their neck. I would go with stoning and crucifixion being the two most inhumane methods as they are always prolonged and painful, but there are older methods such as scaphismus, where the condemned man was smeared in honey, inside two rowing boats with their arms, legs and head protruding, and left in the open air to be devoured by insects and, often, devoured internally when insects laid eggs on their body. Burning alive and boiling or frying must have been very unpleasant too. If I had to choose I'd take the guillotine any time. I think it's he best method for the prisoner, it's just a bit messy for the executioner and witnesses.
