Is it possible to die from an Anadin overdose? I've noticed a friend of mine seems to be stocking up on Anadin Extra. So far he has about 5 packs (at 16 pills each, so that'd be 80 pills) and he also has Vodka. Maybe he just gets a lot of headaches... But is death from Anadin (Extra) possible?

  1. Many people die each year from aspirin overdose.  I would encourage him to see someone.

  2. The product contains 300mg of Aspirin, 200mg of Paracetamol and 45mg of Caffeine.

Mixing alcohol with the paracetamol (also known as acetaminophen the active ingredient in Tylenol) makes it much more toxic to the liver. A major cause of liver failure in the United States.

These products that contain Caffeine have a build in marketing tool, in that Caffeine withdrawal causes severe headaches. So once you are in the habit of using them, you can expect headaches on a regular basis.

chronic alcohol use with asprin promotes ulcers, chronic use of these types of product promotes kidney disease and live disease even without alcohol.

  3. Oh yes. The active ingredients in Anadin Extra are  aspirin 300 mg and Paracetamol 200 mg. The fatal dose of aspirin is 10 -20 g (30-60 tablets) and for paracetamol around 10 g (50 tablets).

Death from aspirin occurs quite soon after overdose but the effect of paracetamol is delayed for a few days and is a long lingering unpleasant death from liver failure
