Question:

Death penalty for child molestation?

Do you agree that the Supreme Court ruled against the death penalty citing nationwide belief that the death penalty would only cause the perpetrator to kill the child?

Steve Chabot, R-Ohio, a member of the Judiciary Committee questioning Attorney General Mukasey Wednesday, and disagreeing with the Supreme Court ruling, said he has introduced a bill that has been sponsored by three others in the House to amend the Constitution against the ruling, that death is cruel and unusual punishment for child molestation.

Only a Constitution amendment can overrule the Supreme Court. Do you think giving the death penalty to the perpetrator would cause her/him to kill the child to avoid it?

  1. America has a strict policy on not negotiating with terrorist.  We should have the same policy for pedophiles.  If we live in fear of them and don't punish them as harshly because of what they will do to the kids, we are submitting to them - which is what they want.  If they are dealt with harshly and horrifically and disposed of, it will keep other children for being hurt.

Castrating them wouldn't accomplish much.  It might prevent rape, but what about fondling; will we cut their hands off?   What about oral; will we remove their tongues?  What about child pornography; will we gouge out there eyes?  The problem is in the mind.  Removing the brain would work.

Zero tolerance is the only solution.

I think that proper enforcement would prevent vigilantism against perpetrators and their accomplices as well as attorneys.

  2. I agree with the SC decision, though for different reasons. I'm not a proponent of the punishment, as it is ineffective as a deterrent and ends up being more costly to the taxpayers that a lifetime incarceration. The death penalty also seems like an easy way out for a child molester- they get what they deserve spending their lives locked up, since most inmates don't respect them. If the death penalty being used on molesters causes even on child to be killed, it is not worth it.

  3. if any one molest a child they should pay for it my death . don't care about any courts ,

should be hanged in public to give a warning to others that children are our future .

innocence lost for every for every child that has it done to them.

  4. I am one who believes that the punishment should fit the crime. Child molesters should be castrated. Putting them to death might cause them to kill the child first, I guess, but some child molesters already do kill the child after molesting them. The only punishment in my eyes is castration. Sorry if I offend anyone, but that's how I see it.

  5. Child molestation is horrible but the death penalty should be reserved for murderers. If it is applied to others, what is going to stop them from just killing their victims since there won't be any additional penalty when they're caught? Besides, I've read that child molesters don't have an easy time in prison, so that sounds like a sufficient punishment.

  6. The state of Louisiana, through its legislature and governor's signature, decided that the death penalty is the punishment that fits the crime of child rape.

Regardless of what anyone outside of the state of Louisiana believes about the death penalty itself, as long as it is not ruled to be 'cruel and unusual', it should be the right of the state to decide what punishment fits what crime.

Read Amendments 8, 9, and 10, and try to figure out the Supreme Court's logic for overturning that law.

  7. These creeps deserve to pay for their crimes.  The most important thing is to protect children. With that in mind, there are good reasons for opposing the death penalty in these cases.

•First of all, to avoid the death penalty the rapist is more likely to kill the key and only eyewitness, namely his victim.

•Secondly, rape and abuse of children is already one of the most underreported crimes, because they are most often committed by fathers, uncles, and family friends. If the perpetrator can face the death penalty, the crime will be even less likely to be reported.

•Additionally, children who are victims of rape and abuse often carry a heavy load of guilt which would be made much worse if the victimizer is executed.

•Last of all, defendents in rape cases have been misidentified by victims. Take a look at www.innocenceproject.org for information about cases where rape victims identified the wrong person. Children have also been manipulated into making accusations of rape and abuse where no such crimes even occurred

  8. No I believe that a child molester should be killed immediately

    By public hanging

  9. I'd support it. If you ever, ever, ever hurt a child that way you need to die.

  10. If you only have one witness, and there is no penalty to kill that witness, they would surely kill the witness

Keep the law the same and protect the life of the child

  11. Death penalty for a child molestor equals the crime..but there are states that don't have the death penalty anymore..so the predators shall live and reoffend when they get out of jail..now that is sad and sick..children deserve our full protection from predators

  12. I may be biased in my answer but it's still how I feel. My son was molested 9 years ago..he was 5.. to this day not 1 thing has been done to his molester..but my son lives with it every day.. So, I personally think the death penalty isn't good enough and isn't long enough suffering.. I am sorry.  Unless you are a parent and have experienced that paren'ts worst nightmare you have no idea how it changes a person..Until then happened I really believed that "well, they are sick and they deserve another chance".. not anymore. I wonder often how many more kids my son's molester raped. and how many he will in the future. These people cannot be "FIXED" and they cannot be "rehabilibitated".. 99% of s*x offenders who get out of jail, offend again within 3-4 days ..so rehab. what a joke... I think 1. jail for about 2 weeks..let the prisoners rape them and dod their thing 2. castration.. SLOW AND PAINFUL while awake 3. death.. slow and painful..

If a person plans to kill the child, they will anyway. Most perps don't plan to be caught in the first place so I don't think this law would make a difference in how many are killed/not killed.

  13. YES  NO REASON ITS THE MOT SICK TWISTED THING EVER THEY SHOULD BE SHOT ON SITE

  14. No, just make sure that the other prisoners know why the child molester is there. The other prisoners will take care of it.

  15. Back in the old west, when coast-to-coast railways were in their infancy, there was a huge problem with train robberies.  There were so many isolated stretches of railroad, that it was easy for robbers to stop trains and loot the cargo and take the passengers' valuables.

It got so bad that finally the government decided to institute the death penalty to all train robbers, thinking this would reduce the problem.

What ended up happening wasn't a reduction of train robberies; rather, there was a dramatic reduction in train robbery survivors.  Rather than leave witnesses that could testify against them, the train robbers would simply bring extra ammunition so that they could kill everyone on the train.

What makes you think a child molester wouldn't do the same exact thing?
