Question:

Death with dignity act limitations

My father was told that he would probably die within 3 months. He owns a corporation and it would definately be better if he died on or before Nov 8, 2008. My wife and I are talking about his options and in order to have control over his death, he has to have 8 weeks of psychiatric evaluation minimum. In July he did visit a psychiatrist, but it was before his diagnosis and prognosis. Can that visit start off the 8 weeks?

  1. My sympathies are with you.  I believe in assisted "suicide" and think that if it's humane to put animals down, then why isn't it to put humans down?

Medical assisted death does not happen in the states.  Your best bet is a closed garage with the car running..  Dr Kavorkian was jailed for assisted "suicide" for many years, but I think he was right in doing what he did.

Again, my thoughts and prayers are with you in your time of need.  Good Luck and God Speed.

  2. The first visit probably doesn't count for the 8 weeks.

Also, you need to be aware that your father might be legally obligated to disclose his prognosis to the company, especially if it's publicly traded.  You need to talk to a lawyer about this asap.

Good luck with everything, and I'm so sorry for your loss.
