  1. Nuclear is the cleanest form of energy we have right now.  The waste is able to be stored safely these days and worst case scenarios like Chernobyl were not as bad as the media portrayed, but do illustrate how bad management of any power plant can be dangerous.

There are a lot of forces against nuclear.  Forces that have a lot of money and influence, but the facts show that it is the best and safest form of energy to date.  The propaganda against nuclear has been relentless.  Even movies like "China Syndrome" were created to turn the public away from nuclear.

The truth is that nuclear power is both safe and efficient, as well as very clean.

You could say something like: "Most of Europe is embracing nuclear power, so why not Australia?  Should we be left behind as other countries advance?"

You could also mention the jobs it would create to build new nuclear power plants.  It's a win-win situation.

There are no other forms of clean energy that are as efficient.  Wind and solar are getting better, but to date are sadly ineffective to solving energy demands. There are other ideas being researched, but they're still years from any practical use.

Hope that helps.  Good luck on your debate.

  2. The cleanest energy might be based on some further development of NanoSolar. But unless you build a plant to print the panels, you can not find enough... all current capacity is sold out.

Australia has a lot of desert space to cover with NanoSolar, and it does provide cheap daytime power. What it lacks is any ability to give power from close to sundown to after sunrise. Mighty banks of batteries that would power a town could be used, but battery storage would cost as much as the solar power.

Australia has a lot of time with little wind so that is not a practical proposition.

For towns close enough to water, water can be pumped up to an elevation to provide on-demand electrical generation. This process would not use up any water. It would be there next day to be pumped back up.

Thermal solar energy can be used to heat water which on demand can cause expansion of a refrigerant which can then operate a 'steam' engine.  Or concentrated solar energy can raise the temperature of metals to any temperature that would not cause them to vaporize. The metals can then on demand power a steam engine.

Geothermal power can of course be used to power a steam engine also. In small volumes this energy is prohibitive, but for amounts of power a town would need, it is entirely practicable.

The main benefit of geothermal is that it can supply base load power, but it can be ramped up to meet demand, within limits.

There are a few places like Tasmania where wind power might be economical.

  3. I can give you a lot of inormation. If i were you I would do a few things.

Start by saying that building nuclear plants is a totally old fashioned idea (it is!) There are harmful biproducts like plutonium

Firstly concentrate on some really powerful new technologies.

Secondly concentrate on the negative effects and high cost or building nuclear plants.

    Here are some simple facts.

We can now produce ethanol from bacteria and waste plant material - not corn ethanol. zymetics.com

One of your fellow Australians designed an engine that works on perpetual motion from magnets and is very strong. - There is no waste biproduct - it is totally clean - and very cheap to build.

In 1989 Stan Meyers built a car that runs on HHO technology that is very powerful and can power a whole street but be built for under 1000 bucks - this is the future - check out videos on you tube. Say that is is a matter of pride that Australia move into the future and not the past. You want to be up to date with countries like Japan not Iran

  4. solar panels since most of the summer spring and  winter is sunny enough to power it will take the heat and make cleaner energy.

then have storage batteries to store when night time

also since australia isnt the biggest of countries it should use water as energy it uses no water so its always there for u

  5. clean energy........wind, ocean, solar..........safe no side effects

nuclear .........Look Up Three Mile Island........melt down
