Debates raised over MS Dhoni’s captaincy – Cricket News Update
Following http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746, MS Dhoni’s captaincy has become a cause for debate as experts and officials find themselves divided in their opinions regarding his eligibility for the post.
The Men in Blue kicked off their tour Down Under earlier this year, with a humiliating 0-4 whitewash by the home team in the Test series, and followed it up with below par performances in the Commonwealth Bank series, in which they won only 3 of the 8 matches
they played, spending most of the series at the bottom of the points table.
Dhoni, already dealing with rumours of a rift between him and veteran batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758, which was unable
to get them a spot in the three-match finals series.
Among the critics is former Indian captain http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kapil-Dev-c70234, who has accused Dhoni for making “seemingly biased” choices as skipper of the national side.
“A captain should not only be fair but also appear to be so as well. Of late he has given reasons to raise doubts about him,” Kapil said, pointing towards instances such as the inclusion of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SK-Raina-c2539
(who was played in every single match in the ongoing Commonwealth Bank series, despite his mediocre outings, with 40 being his highest score), and the exclusion of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Manoj-Tiwary-c1890 from the playing XI throughout the team’s tour Down Under.
Another former Indian skipper, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bishan-Singh-Bedi-c48133, had previously claimed that Dhoni had lost his golden touch, and the appointment of a new captain was in order.
However, the 30-year-old found a strong supporter in the BCCI vice-president, Rajeev Shukla, who insisted that the skipper had a “strong” track record.
“Under him, Team India won the World Cup, T20 World Cup and they were also listed as the top Test-playing country,” Shukla pointed out, adding that it was unreasonable to criticize a player after just a few losses.
Despite the many voices calling for his resignation from the post, Dhoni is set to lead the team in yet another international campaign, as the Men In Blue prepare for the upcoming Asia Cup, scheduled to commence on March 11.
