  1. Freedom of speech is a hard fought battle.

  2. we have freedom of speech becasue of the fighting in WWi, WWii and now we are always fighting for our rights and the right ot have freedom not all have this and the third world countries dont have this. if they say somethign the govt does not like they are put in jail. so you should be ahppy we have it and the men and women who stoo d up and were counted in those wars so we coudl enjoy our fredom and speech.

  3. Seeking solution.

in solving the misery of living human kind.

Before it break out into the streets.

    When one at the top.

    Does not know everything.

With what went wrong out there.

    Leviticus 4. 13,22

    What do you think?

  4. That is called Freedom.

  5. The real freedom is the freedom of speech. Even in despotic countries one has the freedom to eat and to make one own livelihood. But, what is denied is the freedom to speak freely. They know very well once that is given, the fire of liberty and rebellion will engulf the kingdom of evil. Speech is the vehicle of thinking and once it is choked all the ideas are blocked. Hence, freedom of speech is the fundamental of all the freedom.

  6. God made us to speak and gave freedom of speech. Why do you have freedom to ask?

  7. It really should be freedom of Political speech and ideas. Using it to allow profane gutter language is a perversion of the intent of the law.

  8. The right to discuss freely and openly, by speech, by the pen, by the press, all political questions, and to examine and animadvert (speak out) upon all political institutions, is a right so clear and certain, so interwoven with our other liberties, so necessary, in fact to their existence, that without it we must fall at once into depression or anarchy. To say that he who holds unpopular opinions must hold them at the peril of his life, and that, if he expresses them in public, he has only himself to blame if they who disagree with him should rise and put him to death, is to strike at all rights, all liberties, all protection of the laws, and to justify and extenuate all crimes.

    -William Cullen Bryant

  9. Put succinctly: debates are the reason for our freedom to speak (and debate)

The cornerstone of the democratic process is that we have an open marketplace of ideas.  That a well informed populous which is able to discuss, debate, and consider matters of public importance - even if some of those viewpoints are unpopular (or even seem absurd at the time).  From those discussions we choose our leaders, as well as interact and advise them (write your congressman!) from time to time.

    Some quotes:

"We can never be sure that the opinion we are endeavoring to stifle is a false opinion; and if we were sure, stifling it would be an evil still.  ~John Stuart Mill, On Liberty, 1859"

This is an argument against limiting speech - without properly considering an opinion, we cannot judge it right or wrong.  Plus, it can be considered a human right to think as one will - and to have one's words reflect that.

"I am thankful for all the complaining I hear about our government because it means we have freedom of speech. " ~Nancie J. Carmody

Freedom of speech is the hallmark of a free society.  One cannot exist without the other.

"We are not afraid to entrust the American people with unpleasant facts, foreign ideas, alien philosophies, and competitive values.  For a nation that is afraid to let its people judge the truth and falsehood in an open market is a nation that is afraid of its people".  ~John F. Kennedy

Again, the idea of a marketplace of ideas.

"I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it".  ~Voltaire

Once again, freedom of belief (and expressing those beliefs) is seen by many as a human right.

    Good luck.

  10. Freedom of speech is needed in order to promote democracy. it is essential (research into that)

If we didnt have freedom of speech, there would be the continued amendments and repelltion of laws in order to keep them up to date. Such as laws related to technology which are only recent.

  11. Because the English took this right away from the people of the colonies as well as the rest of the bill of rights and Thomas Jefferson and the other founders of our country felt that people should have a voice and an opinion.  This country was founded on the principles of freedom and denying freedom of speech takes away a God given freedom.

  12. So we can speak our minds for fairness and equality

    -Hilary Clinton

"This is her close friend speaking"

  13. we all have opinions and our opinions are part of who we are as  a person.
