Debating. Anybody got any good points?

Question

i have to do a debate on 'Sympathy is better than honesty'. Everyone knows that it isn't but unfortunately i got put on the affirmative side.

does anyone have a stroke of genius and know of any points i can do?

Because i am really stuck!!

Say when a parent's child passes away and you knew that child was into illegal things and the parents ask you how were they because you were their cclose friend, do you tell them the truth? I don't think so.

A child (3yrs) who's parents are divorcing or a child who sees someone get hurt in public....doyou tell them the truth at such a young age?

A sucidial girlfriend wanting to know what it was that caused you guys to break up. Do you tell her the truth or do you tell her it's was just you.

I think anything involving young children and heartache, emotions, it's fair game.
