Question:

Debating over whether to have a baby

My husband and I have been together for about 6 years(married 1 year) and we are both 28 yrs.old. My father lives with us and helps us with a small amount each month for the bills. Lately we've been talking about having a baby. I'm getting older and I do want one, but on the other hand, I work at a warehouse and drive a lift truck all day and I also have to lift heavy boxes at times, which means it will probably be risky to work there while preg, so I'll have to get laid off and receive unemployment. I want to get my degree, but I know that will take probably about 10 years of school going P/T and I don't want to put a hold on my baby plans for something that I feel is out of reach. I also live in a 2 bedroom apt. and want to buy a house soon, but I know if I buy a house, with all of the bills we have, I'll definitely be broke! My husband also does not make enough money to cover all of the bills when I do get preggo. I'm switching back and forth and I have been thinking about this for a long time. If someone is in my shoes or has been there done that, your comments are welcomed and appreciated.

  1. What about holding off for 2yrs or so. That way you can get some money in savings so you can afford to take off work either during the pregnancy or after the baby comes. During that time you can also start school and who knows maybe your hubby will end up with a better paying job or a promotion.

This was our plan and so far it's worked out well. I worked all the way until the day my son was born. We paid off debt and put money in savings to supplement my husbands income so I can stay home with my son. We were both in school until I became pregnant and my husband is still in school. We hope that because of his education he will have a better paying job soon. I found that daycare just wasn't worth it. I would be bringing home close to nothing. My husband can work a few hours of overtime and make what I would full time after paying for daycare and other work related expenses.
