Linking a Backup Funding Source to your Debit Card. Once you activate your Debit Card, you can link a Verified bank account, your PayPal Buyer Credit Account, or your PayPal Plus Credit Card as a Backup Funding Source to the Debit Card. Having a Backup Funding Source enables you to make Debit Card transactions when your Balance is insufficient to fund the transaction.

Your debit card uses funds from your Paypal account. To add money to your debit card, you'd need to make a deposit into your Paypal account. You can do that through the checking account that your Paypal account is linked to -- just log in to your Paypal account and click on "Add Funds".
