Debt Settlements!?

What would be a good amount to offer the debt companies that are calling me to settle my accounts that are in collections some offer 50% savings and other a little more. When do I know its a good deal?

  1. "Understand that during negotiations, your creditor/collection agent may want more than what you offer to pay...even if you offer 100%. I recommend offering much less than the full amount owed, somewhere in the neighborhood of 20 to 40% of the total owed. If your creditor/collection agent jumps on your first figure, chalk it up to good luck and take it. "
