I enrolled in a semester of classes with financial aid two years ago. After registering and beginning classes online they had gotten my last name wrong so I couldn't take any of the proctored tests because my driver's license did not match the name the school had. I withdrew from the classes within the full refund time frame so financial aid did not pay my tuition and I thought that I was fine. About six months after that semester ended I began receiving collection calls, so I talked with several people at the school, in all different departments, and they admitted their mistake and told me not to worry about it anymore. Today I now got a threatening letter from a collection agency, I have no record that I dropped the class because it was online but I have record of the mistaken name and my financial aid award letter for that quarter do I have grounds to dispute the debt? Please help I have a consultation with a lawyer next week and need advice on what to do about this until then.
