the law offices of james west called my house that i share with 3 other people and my answering machine picked up. they left a msg for me stating they are a debt collector and this was an attempt to collect a debt.

is this legal? oh yeah they did mention that if this is not me, to disregard the message. but to me they just told my roommates that i have a debt.

  1. they should first give you something in writting i would ignore it until you get a bill or something and then try to contact them in writtnig:. do not give them any information if you really owe them something they should already have your information:.

remember collector do this for a living so they are smart and tricky:. don't fall into their traps in california any dept that's older than 4yrs doesn't have to be repayed:.

  2. Of course they can leave a message.

If you don't want your room mates to know you have a bill you have not paid.......pay all your bills. Then debt collectors have no reason to call you.

  3. All they're suppose to do is leave their name and number.

  4. 1. LAWYER UP!

    2. NEXT TIME THEY CALL ANSWER THE PHONE AND TELL THEM TO WAIT .SET THE PHONE DOWN. WASTE SOME OF THERE TIME. COSTS THEM MONEY AND TIME.
