Question:

Debt collectors won't accept my payment ?!?

Alright, so I was stupid and refused to pay off something because I didn't feel I was adequately taken care of.

Now I'm having to pay the price (literally). I'm trying to call the collections agency but they're being super sketchy. Giving me false names of supervisors after fumbling over it, then when I ask to speak to the supervisor literally handing the phone to someone next to them who says maybe the supervisor can call you back, uhm the phone might drop the call when transferring etc (then actually hanging up).

My point is, I'm frustrated, feel lied to and feel embarassed. I Owe several hundred dollars and can only afford a $25 payment. But this woman said she declines my payment because it's not enough. I thought debt collectors have to accept any attempting payment, even if it's $10, and stop the increasing balance owed?

She says I can make a $150 payment or call back when I actually have that much money. Is there any laws or acts that say they have to accept what I've got? Or do I have to let the balance get out of control and s***w up my credit even more?

thank you

  1. First don't pay them anything until they show validation of the debt.  Send them a certified letter asking for validation of the debt.  Go to creditinfocenter.com.  They have sample letters.   They have 30 days to validate or they have to remove the debt.  Always send these letter with any agency before paying anythihng with a collection agency.  Go to the site and it has loads of great information.

  2. I'm not an expert on this, but I would suggest you take a tour here, there are expert's tips over there.http://debt-relief.expertips4u.info/debt...

  4. keep sending your payments (money orders or checks) and keep all of your returned checks and all paper work. so if you are dragged to court you have all the paper work and receipts to prove you have tried to pay and the judge will throw the case and they will have to leave you alone.

  5. I am suprised (well not totally), you would think they would take whatever you are willing to pay. Your money is still green as the next person. Demand to see your bill in paper and ask for names and supervisors names. Then get on the BBA (better business) and look up their company name. If they refuse to send you anything then you know something isn't on the up and up.

There are others in the credit section that have way more info on the particular rights and regulations on this issue, but as for me being an every day folk I'd say this stinks to high heaven.

  6. sounds like your talking to my company.

I'm on my last 2 weeks, email who your working with them and i'll help you.

they can not accept your payment but they will take it. the calls will cont more then likely
