Debt help. Is this a scam?

I see where folks can call a number and get some debt help by consolidating their credit card, etc. Supposedly they get you one monthly affordable payment. Is this a scam or is this real and if its real which ones are reputable?

You are allowed one a year

i would not call them scams but anything that they can do you can just as easy do it your self!!!

You might want to read this article I just found that appears to be linked to Columbia University's website.

It is instructions to do this for yourself.  I think it's worth your time to read it and attempt to do this because any service out there will charge you fees to do it.
