we are booked going to rome after Christmas. The 31st is the last Sunday of the month which is going to be free for vatican. Would this be a bad idea? Do I need to make advance reservation for any of the museum at this particular time? Thanks

  1. The Vatican Museum is open on Dec. 31 and it is free. I'm not sure if it will be crowded, but considering it will be cold (there's usually a pretty long line to get in) and New Years' Eve, I doubt many Italians will be visiting it, as New Year's Eve is a big party night here. You can't make advance reservations.

As for other museums, not sure if they will be open on that day. You need to check them individually.

  2. I visited the vatican in June and had to wait in line 2-2.5 hours so if it's free I'm not sure how long the line will be depending on what everyone is doing.
