Deccan Chargers beat Royal Challengers Bangalore by 33 runs
The 11th match of the IPL (Indian Premier League) witnessed the second highest total of the tournament being scored by the Deccan Chargers (DC).
Earlier, after losing the toss, Sangakkara’s men were invited to bat first. Losing the toss did wonders for the team, as they clobbered the opposition right from the start. The openers gave a steady start to their team, as Sunny Sohal and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shikhar-Dhawan-c90019
scored 38 and 11 runs.
However, it was Sangakkara, who paced things up as he came one down to bat. The skipper scored 36 runs off 25 deliveries. His innings included a six and three boundaries.
The highest scorer from the Chargers was Bharat Chipli, who remained not-out after playing a 61 run knock off a mere 35 deliveries.
His innings included five boundaries and three sixes. The Chargers finished the innings with only five wickets down, which basically showed the incapacity of the bowlers from Bangalore to penetrate the defences of the opposition.
Steyn was awarded the man of the match because of his breathtaking performance with the ball. The South African took three wickets for 24 runs in his four overs.
On the other hand, the Royal Challengers Bangalore faced their second back-to-back loss in the lucrative league.
DC, after posting a formidable total of 175 runs, made life for the Challengers even more difficult by a belligerent bowling attack, which consisted of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Manpreet-Gony-c1891. The trio ran havoc on the batting line-up of Bangalore, as
the upper order batsmen seemed completely rattled by the robust bowling they were up against.
The dangerous opener Tillakaratne Dilshan flopped yet again, as he fell to Sharma by giving a slight edge to wicketkeeper, Kumar Sangakkara. He went back after scoring just seven runs.
Skipper Daniel Vettori then decided to send Zaheer Khan up the order as a hitter to increase the run-rate.
However, the plan backfired as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Khan-c71319 was bowled on nil after facing nine deliveries. His wicket was taken by Steyn.
Opener, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mayank-Agarwal-c1937, also failed to score big runs, which were the need of the hour, as he went back to the pavilion by giving a catch to Amit Mishra off a delivery by Gony. He scored only 16 runs off 13 deliveries.
If it hadn’t been for a grace saving innings of 71 runs by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Virat-Kohli-c95424, Bangalore would have suffered an even more embarrassing defeat.
Not even the dependable http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AB-de-Villiers-c887 could do anything to take his side near the tally, as he lost his wicket without troubling the scorers. He also perished by edging Gony’s delivery straight into the gloves of Sangakkara.
By the time Kohli got bowled by Gony, it was obviously over for Bangalore, and all they could do at that point in time was to make sure that they played the remainder of the innings. Daniel Vettori’s XI could only score 142 runs in 20 overs.
Sangakkara led his team impressively to register their first victory by dominating the opposition throughout the match.
