Deccan Chargers captain Kumar Sangakkara says Sri Lanka players have to abide by SLC decision
Deccan Chargers captain and former Sri Lanka skipper, Kumar Sangakkara has said that the Lankan players will have to abide by the decision of the Sri Lanka Cricket.
SLC recently called all of their players playing in the Indian Premier League back home by 5 May, 2011 in order to prepare them for their upcoming tour to England.
“We have a tour of England happening by the end of May. I think the Board (SLC) will start calling us back. I am not sure if it is going to be May 5 or not (for the return home),” Sangakkara said.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 are due to leave for England on 10 May, 2011 for a Test and One Day International assignment. The IPL will continue until 28 May but the SLC has directed its players to come back and leave the Twenty20 tournament midway.
Two of the Sri Lanka players are leading different outfits in the tournament. Sangakkara is heading the Deccan Chargers while Mahela Jayawardene is shouldering his duties as skipper for Kochi Tuskers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Kerala-c803.
Some of the other Sri Lanka players who are participating in the fourth season of the IPL include Suraj Randiv (Chennai Super Kings), Nuwan Kulasekara (Chennai Super Kings), Dilhara Fernando (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 Indians), Lasith Malinga (Mumbai Indians), Angelo Mathews
(Pune Warriors) and Thisara Perera (Kochi Tuskers).
Responding to the question about the possible change in the date of return, the Sri Lanka wicketkeeper batsman left it all up to the negotiations between the Board of Control for Cricket in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 and Sri Lanka Cricket.
“It is up to the BCCI and SLC to negotiate on this (date of return). What we as players can do is to abide by the decision of our Board. I hope the players would be communicated after a decision is taken by the BCCI and SLC. We have to abide by that,” the
Deccan skipper added.
Meanwhile, Sangakkara regarded his team’s first victory in the fourth season as a huge relief. After losing two consecutive matches in the League, Sangakkara finally seemed satisfied over Deccan Chargers’ performance at home. The Chargers thrashed Royal
Challengers Bangalore comprehensively by 33 runs in their third IPL game on Thursday.
Heaping praise on Bharat Chipli for his fantastic unbeaten innings of 61 runs, Sangakkara asked his players not to get carried away with the win but work hard to build winning momentum for the upcoming matches in the competition.
