Deccan Chargers captain Kumar Sangakkara urges international players to accept responsibility
Deccan Chargers skipper Kumar Sangakkara urged the overseas players in the roster to take responsibility in the remaining fixtures of the ongoing season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) to allow them a chance to qualify for the
playoffs.
"The overseas players have to take big responsibility. The international players need to come here and win games. Unfortunately, we have not been able to convert many of the games and that's something we need to look at," the captain
insisted.
Deccan Chargers slumped to a 20-run defeat against the Kolkata Knight Riders at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad on Tuesday, May 3, 2011. While chasing an intimidating 170-run target set by Kolkata Knight Riders,
Sangakkara and his men only managed 149 for 6 from their allotted quota of 20 overs.
With 6 losses from 9 fixtures, Deccan Chargers are now languishing at the lower half of the standings with 6 points on the IPL points table.
The Sri Lankan cricketer was highly disappointed with the squad’s sixth loss in the ongoing tournament.
"It is a bit frustrating and not good for us. We take a lot of pride with the way we play our cricket and to lose as many games as we have done, it really hurts. It's very disappointing," Sangakkara maintained.
Sangakkara’s men were also done in by their clumsy fielding in yesterday’s game which saw right-handed batsman Yusuf Pathan gaining two lives. Cashing in on the opportunity, Yusuf amassed 47 runs off 26 balls.
The wicket-keeper batsman expressed his frustration over the chances given to the explosive Knight Riders batsman. He added that the team needs to discipline their game and work hard in order to reach the IPL play-offs.
"It’s hard to give two chances to a batsman of the calibre of Yusuf Pathan who can be destructive," concluded Sangakkara.
He noted that a 170-run target was not impossible to get on the batting friendly pitch of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hyderabad-c792, especially when openers like himself and Cameron White, form a solid partnership.
