Deccan Chargers skipper Kumar Sangakkara believes international players need to step up
Deccan Chargers skipper, Kumar Sangakkara wants his team’s international players to lead from the front in upcoming matches if they want to be a major threat to any side and qualify for the knock-out stage of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The Sri Lankan
batsman was devastated after his team suffered their sixth straight defeat in the IPL.
Deccan Chargers lost the game to Kolkata Knight Riders, and after the defeat, are now placed at number six spot on the League table.
Sangakkara expressed his disappointment at the loss and wants his team to bounce back into the tournament. He felt that his team failed to win key battles in the match, which eventually led to them losing the match.
Sangakkara said, “The overseas players have to take big responsibility. The international players need to come here and win games. Unfortunately, we have not been able to convert many of the games and that's something we need to look at.”
Deccan Chargers were below par in the game against Kolkata and were also let down by some pretty ordinary fielding. They gave Kolkata batsman Yusuf Pathan not one, but two chances, and the belligerent Pathan made them pay for that. He scored 47 runs off
just 26 deliveries as he powered KKR to 169 runs.
“It's hard to give two chances to a batsman of the calibre of Yusuf Pathan who can be destructive,” he said.
Sangakkara stated that there were a number of improvements needed in the team immediately. The captain also insisted that his side needed extra time during fielding sessions as there was no excuse dropping two catches, that too of a top batsman. Another
aspect that needs improvement is the bowling in death overs as KKR scored 59 runs in last five overs.
The elegant left-hand batsman from http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 emphasized that even though KKR managed to score a good total, Deccan should have chased it down considering it was a batting friendly wicket. He admitted that he along with Cameron White failed to capitalize
on the start that was given to the Chargers by their opening pair of Sunny Sohal and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Shikhar-Dhawan-c90019.
“170 is always gettable, especially on a track like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hyderabad-c792. Having got a solid start from the openers, myself and Cameron White could not capitalise and keep the momentum going,” said the left-handed Sangakkara.
Deccan Chargers will next be facing http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Delhi-c780 Dare Devils on Thursday, May 5. Playing at home once again, they will be hoping to break the jinx of losing home games, and hoping to come out on top against the Dare Devils.
