Deccan Chargers skipper Sangakkara says Chennai Super Kings’ loss was due to poor execution of plans
A visibly disappointed Deccan Chargers’ captain Kumar Sangakkara termed poor execution of plans as major cause of his team’s humiliating defeat to Chennai Super Kings in an Indian Premier League game on Sunday.
The defending champions Chennai crushed the Chargers and sealed an emphatic 19-run victory in the 39th
game of the IPL at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
After electing to bat first, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mahendra-Singh-Dhoni-c73820 and company posted a fighting total of 165 runs on the board. While Michael Hussey contributed a 41-ball 46, Suresh Raina smashed a fantastic knock of 59 runs from just 35 balls with help of 6 fours and 2
sixes.
In response, the Chargers could only manage to reach 146 for 8 in 20 overs. Although Sunny Sohal provided his side a fabulous start by smashing an aggressive innings of 56 runs, the rest of batsmen were not able to build on to the momentum.
Deploring on his side’s poor batting performance, the Chargers skipper admitted that the lack of strategy was one of the biggest reasons of his team’s disgraceful fifth loss in the competition.
“It was a difficult decision but I thought the team put on there was spot on for this game and unfortunately execution of our plans and strategy out in the middle was not up to the mark,” Sangakkara said.
Furthermore, the captain described that it was not at all about luck and the batsmen should have taken more responsibility in the middle of the innings.
“It is not about being unlucky; it is about doing and executing plans in the middle and which we fail to do, in the last bit of our bowling and also in the middle order. We should have gone a bit harder in the middle and taken a few more risks,” the classy
Sri Lankan batsman added.
Meanwhile, Chennai’s Man of the Match, Albie Morkel said that the wicket was not easy to bat on. Considering target of 165 as defendable, the South African pacer explained that the Chargers took a fine start but they kept on losing wickets on regular intervals
and that made the difference in the end.
