Why do the Deccan Chargers lose match after match in the Indian Premier League?
Continued from the previous part...
In their fixture against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 smashed Deccan afterwards and scored a stunning hundred
to seal the victory for his team. Same has been the case on a number of occasions this year.
Fielding is the most important aspect of modern-day cricket and no team can afford to give chances to quality players, who do not need a second invitation.
Lehman understands that his team has let the fans down but also urged the boys to look forward and end the season on a high.
“Things haven't really gone our way this time. Success and defeat are part of the game. It's about how you deal with them. As professionals, everyone in the side understands it. Rather than brooding over the defeats, it's important to pick ourselves up and
move ahead,” the mentor added.
Most of the teams ride on the shoulders of their foreign stars to boost the performance of their teams. However, this has not been the case for the Chargers in the current season as the senior players could not handle different situations.
Deccan’s skipper, Sangakkara admitted earlier that the foreign players of his team should have taken the responsibility on their shoulders. The former Sri Lankan captain feels that no team can solely depend on the local players as they do not have as much
experience as the international stars.
"The overseas players need to understand their responsibilities and absorb the majority of the pressure. That is why most of the imports are international players and capped in a huge number of matches. Overseas players have to share the responsibilities
and the younger Indian players should be allowed to play freely and enjoy their game and find their places in the side and get that self belief," Sangakkara expressed.
Dhawan and White have scored more than 300 runs each in the tournament but the rest of the batting order has been found wondering.
In the bowling department, Steyn has looked threatening at times but he never found any support from the other end. Deccan has surely missed its premier fast bowler, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/I-Sharma-c1566 in the on-going season. Sharma was ruled out of the tournament because of
an injury earlier this year. His presence would have surely boosted their bowling.
Sangakkara and company have so far failed to gel well as a unit. Sometimes the batting has fired but the bowling could not defend the score. On other occasions, the bowling unit did a good job but the batsmen failed to cross the line. Considering their performances
in the current season, one must question the pre-season preparation of the Chargers as they could have spent more time together through a prolonged camp. Seeing the Chargers play, it is extremely visible that they lack coordination within the team.
It is probably too late for the Chargers now to make amends in the current season. However, the management will have to take some tough decisions for the sixth edition of the cash-rich league, which will be played in 2013. One should not be surprised to
see Deccan buying some new players in next year’s auction as the current lot of players have disappointed big time.
